Why Should You Consider Getting Your Child Vaccinated
Vaccination, along with other preventative measures, can protect children from COVID-19 using the safe and effective vaccines already recommended for use in adolescents and adults in the United States. Similar to what was seen in adult vaccine trials, vaccination was nearly 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 among children ages 5-11 years. In clinical trials, vaccine side effects were mild and similar to those seen in adults and with other vaccines recommended for children. The most common side effect was a sore arm.
COVID-19 vaccines have undergone – and will continue to undergo – the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history. Vaccinating children will help protect them from getting COVID-19 and therefore reducing their risk of severe disease, hospitalizations, or developing long-term COVID-19 complications.
Getting your children vaccinated can help protect them against COVID-19, as well as reduce disruptions to in-person learning and activities by helping curb community transmission.
Your Arrival Test Results
Most travellers will be notified of their test result within 4 days. If you havent received your test result in this time frame, you should contact your test provider.
You may not receive your test result if:
- you provided incorrect contact information
- information is missing
- the test is still being processed
- theres an inconclusive result
If a fully vaccinated traveller or unvaccinated child under 12 years of age tests positive on their arrival test:
- they must isolate for 10 days
- report your test results to PHAC by calling 1-833-641-0343
If a fully vaccinated parent, step-parent, guardian, or tutor has travelled with a child and they experience symptoms or test positive:
- report your unvaccinated childs test results and/or symptoms to PHAC by calling 1-833-641-0343
- the fully vaccinated adult should verify which local public health requirements they must follow
If selected for arrival testing, you must provide proof of your test results, if asked, to any federal, provincial, territorial or municipal government official or peace officer.
If you receive an indeterminate or invalid test result, you must take another test.
Contact your test provider within 24 hours of receiving your test result to schedule another test.

Will I Receive Anything To Show Proof Of Vaccination

You should receive a vaccination card or printout that tells you what COVID-19 vaccine you received, the date you received it, and where you received it. Please be sure to keep this card for your second dose. You may take a photo of your card as a backup digital copy.
You should receive a paper or electronic version of a fact sheet that tells you more about the specific COVID-19 vaccine you are being offered. Each COVID-19 vaccine has its own fact sheet that contains information to help you understand the risks and benefits of receiving that specific vaccine: Comirnaty/Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson .

Vaccine Tourism: Travelling To Us To Get Covid
TD Editor
Despite the hiccup on Johnson & Johnson, the vaccination rate in the United States is steadily on the rise. According to the latest data The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, about 146.2 million people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sites are administering about 2.55 million doses per day on average.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said in other countries. Poorer countries trail behind the vaccination rate. Limited supplies are also prompted to prioritise the frontliners and the vulnerable population. People desperate to get vaccinated are now flying to the United States to receive protection against COVID-19, and we are seeing affluent people flying across the world just to jump in line for vaccine.
In the past, Americans are the ones travelling to other countries to receive a cheaper medical procedure. The current situation gives rise to vaccine tourism, which is travelling to another country just to get inoculated.
The main question is, is this legal? Some countries like the UK are actively preventing travellers from outside the country to get vaccinated. In the UK, you are required to get the vaccine through your doctor and you have to confirm all your personal details which include your address. While things are loosely monitored in the US, there is no guarantee that you can get the COVID-19 vaccine. Moreover, regulations vary by state.

Are The Vaccines Effective
Based on evidence from clinical trials, all three vaccines are 100% effective at preventing serious hospitalizations and deaths. Thats our most urgent, important goal. A recent CDC study of essential workers in real-world conditions found the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines reduced the risk of infection by 80% after 1 dose and 90% after 2 doses. The CDC will continue to provide updates as it learns more about how the vaccines work in real-world conditions.

What Is Vaccine Tourism
In what’s being referred to as vaccine “tourism” or “hunting,” individuals across the country are seeking out the most optimal or fastest ways to receive the coronavirus vaccine stalking pharmacies and clinics for leftover doses, or crossing state lines for a quicker result.
Florida had to change its vaccination policy in January after more than 57,000 out-of-staters received shots in the Sunshine State. It was there the term “vaccine tourism” was dubbed.
In Arizona, Gov. Doug Ducey has said“snowbirds” are part of the reason why the state needs more vaccine supply.
Some call it cheating the system, others say vaccinating as many people as possible should be the ultimate goal. In New England, there’s a lot of room for interpretation.
“I think what some have encountered, particularly in New England, a lot of states are saying because of limited supply, we’re really trying to restrict distribution to those we can cite as actually being citizens of the state,” said Jim Potter, executive director of the New Hampshire Medical Society. “Of course we want to see as many people get vaccinated as soon as possible, but I think the states are trying to manage these processes to identify those most medically vulnerable.”

“If people have opportunities to cut the line, they should think about it, if theyre not in a high-risk category,” said Moss.
Who Is Eligible For The Vaccines
Everyone in Louisiana ages 6 months and older are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Having a large portion of the population vaccinated is our best shot at a return to some form of normalcy. Based on conversations with our federal partners, we are encouraged that Louisiana will receive enough doses to vaccinate everyone who wants a shot.

Vaccination: Why Get Vaccinated Against Covid
It is difficult to predict the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. As can be seen from the recent increase in COVID-19 case numbers from infections with Omicron variant viruses, there is always a risk of a future resurgence with a new variant of COVID-19.
Theres no way to know ahead of time how getting COVID-19 disease could affect you. For example, we still dont know why some healthy but unvaccinated people become seriously ill or die from COVID-19, while other healthy people only become mildly sick. In addition, people with mild or even asymptomatic disease can also continue suffering from Long COVID. However, once vaccinated, your body will start building immunity to the virus so you are less likely to get infected, less likely to get seriously ill, less likely to transmit COVID-19 to others, and less likely to get Long COVID. Staying up to date with regard to COVID-19 vaccination will reduce your chances of getting COVID-19 disease at all and will make it very likely that even if you do get the virus, you will have only mild symptoms or none at all. For 2021 and 2020, COVID-19 was the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
All available COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective, including among children 5 years and older, for preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Based on results of antibody studies, we expect the same to be true for children 6 months and older.
Can You Cross State Lines To Get A Covid
If you reside out of state, but own a ski house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire or a summer home on Maine’s Old Orchard Beach, don’t try to get the COVID-19 vaccine there.
That’s the message from several New England states when it comes to who can receive their limited vaccine supply right now. The answer is: residents only.
But enforcement mechanisms are few, and no states cite any penalties for perceived violators.

If I Was Vaccinated In Another State And Lost My Card How Can I Get Another One
If you received one or both of your doses in another state, you will need to contact that states Immunization Information System, and have them provide you with a copy of your vaccination details. You can then provide that to your doctor or parish health unit, and have them enter your information into LINKS.
Once your information has been entered in LINKS, it will be visible to you on the MyIR website.
You can register or log into MyIR to see all of your Louisiana vaccination records, and print out a copy of your records, which will also serve as proof of vaccination status. You can access MyIR here.
Vaccination: Vaccine Development + Safety

mRNA stands for messenger ribonucleic acid.
The COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna use mRNA to cause a two-stage immune response. First, the vaccines mRNA teaches your cells to make a specific non-infectious COVID-19 protein. Then this new protein stimulates your immune system to respond against COVID-19. That immune response produces antibodies and other forms of immunity that help keep you from becoming infected if you are later exposed to COVID-19.
The mRNA in the COVID-19 vaccines does NOT get into the nucleus of your cells or put germs into your body. These two mRNA COVID-19 vaccines will not change your DNA or your bodys other genetic material in any way. These mRNA COVID-19 vaccines do not inject spike proteins into your body.
Additional information about the development of mRNA vaccines is available.
The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is an adjuvanted protein vaccine. The Novavax vaccine uses a more traditional approach, by injecting the spike proteins of the coronavirus, stimulating the immune system to respond directly to those proteins. The vaccine also contains an adjuvant, a substance that amplifies the responses of the immune system to the spike proteins. Adjuvants have already been in use for many years in a number of U.S. vaccines such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and TDaP .
Information describing a COVID-19 vaccines path from initial research to an EUA – and eventually to a biological license application – can be found on the FDAs website.

Preparing For Your Vaccine
COVID-19 vaccination significantly lowers your risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death if you get infected. Compared to people who are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, unvaccinated people aremore likely to get COVID-19, much more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19, and much more likely to die from COVID-19.
Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing infection. Some people who are up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations will get COVID-19 breakthrough infection. However, staying up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations means that you are less likely to have a breakthrough infection and, if you do get sick, you are less likely to get severely ill or die. Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccination also means you are less likely to spread the disease to others and increases your protection against new variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
There is no recommended waiting period between getting a COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines. You can get a COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines, including a flu vaccine, at the same visit. Experience with other vaccines has shown that the way our bodies develop protection, known as an immune response, and possible side effects after getting vaccinated are generally the same when given alone or with other vaccines.
You should get a COVID-19 vaccine even if you already had COVID-19.

Should All Adults Get A Booster Shot
The renewed push for booster shots comes as some of the Biden administration’s top doctors have redoubled calls for the third doses, ahead of FDA and CDC decisions on whether to expand eligibility nationwide for all adults.
“Boosting is going to be an absolutely essential component of our response. Not a bonus, not a luxury, but an absolute essential part of the program,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the president’s chief medical adviser, told The New York Times last week.
In the months since the FDA’s vaccine advisers rejected Pfizer’s initial request to license booster shots for all American adults earlier this year, a growing body of evidence has continued to suggest protection from the vaccines is waning, even as rates of cases and deaths remain far higher among the unvaccinated.
One recent study examining records from the Veterans Health Administration, published earlier this month in Science, found that as the Delta variant surged, effectiveness against symptomatic infections dropped to 58% with Moderna’s vaccine and 43.3% with Pfizer’s, though they remained highly effective at preventing deaths.
A recent CDC analysis found more vaccine breakthrough COVID-19 hospitalizations among Pfizer than Moderna recipients. The risk of hospitalization appeared to climb after four months for Pfizer recipients, the authors said, a sign of potential “waning of protection over time, including for severe COVID-19” from the shots.

If Im Unvaccinated But Have Already Had Covid Should I Still Get Vaccinated
Yes. You should get a COVID-19 vaccine even if you already had COVID-19. No currently available test can reliably determine if you are protected after being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. However, you may consider delaying your next vaccine dose by 3 months from when your symptoms started or, if you had no symptoms, when you first received a positive test.
Getting a COVID-19 vaccine after having COVID-19 provides added protection to your immune system. People who already had COVID-19 and do not get vaccinated after their recovery are more likely to get COVID-19 again than those who get vaccinated after their recovery.

What Is The Risk Of Covid
COVID-19 cases in children can result in hospitalizations, deaths, MIS-C and long-term complications, such as long COVID, in which symptoms can linger for months. The spread of the Delta variant resulted in a surge of COVID-19 cases in children throughout the summer. During a 6-week period in late June to mid-August, COVID-19 hospitalizations among children and adolescents increased fivefold.
COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Louisiana. Since the beginning of August, 25% of all new COVID-19 cases in Louisiana were in children.
Tragically, LDH reported 9 pediatric deaths tied to the recent Delta surge alone. A total of 18 children in Louisiana have died of COVID since the pandemic began.
Nationally, according to the FDA, at least 94 children ages 5 to 11 have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and 8,300 have become so sick they needed to be hospitalized. In fact, COVID was the eighth-leading cause of death in the age group over the past year, after accidents, cancer, malformations, murder, heart disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and flu or pneumonia.
MIS-C is most common in children between the ages of 5 and 13. Since July 1 of this year, 107 cases of MIS-C have occurred in Louisiana children.
