Whats The Covid Situation
Mexico has had around 3.85 million cases of Covid-19 and almost 292,000 deaths as of November 19 . President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has come under fire for taking a laissez-faire approach to the virus. Restrictions have not been far reaching and life has gone on as normal for many, which critics say has led to high death and infection rates.
As of November 19, Mexico had administered more than 130 million doses of vaccine, or about 100 doses per 100 people.

What Is The Climate Like In Mexico
Because of its size, Mexico has a diverse climate.
The Tropic of Cancer splits the country into temperate and tropical zones. Regions north of the 24th parallel have a cooler climate during the winter months. Regions to the south have a more constant climate throughout the year. On the coast on both sides of Mexico, the climate is generally hot and humid, especially in the summer.
In contrast, Mexico Citys temperatures can drop to freezing in the winter. Areas of higher elevation can even see snow during these months. Most of the northwestern area of Mexico has a desert climate. The eastern coast has a tropical climate characterized by a wet season during the summer. Be sure to research the area that you are travelling to and bring appropriate clothing. Bring breathable clothing that you will not be adverse to sweating in.
Other Important Things To Know
Mexico asks that tourists wear face masks in public settings, social distance and follow its Covid-19 prevention guidelines as much as possible. You can access these guidelines here.
While not federally mandated, some states and even cities may require masks to be worn at all times. A federal curfew is also not mandated, but some states in Mexico do enforce a curfew. Interstate travel throughout Mexico can be restricted in some cities depending on the current situation.
Finally, make sure to keep track of Mexicos Covid-19 monitoring system during your travels. Mexico uses a system of color-coded labels to let the public know the risk level, and ultimately, the restrictions implemented. You can access the list of restrictions here.

A New Challenge For Organ Transplants: Donors Who Had Long Covid
Potential organ donors are now routinely screened for coronavirus infections before their organs are removed, and the organs are generally considered safe for transplantation if the test is negative, even if the donor has recovered from Covid.
But there is no universally accepted set of recommendations regarding when organs can be safely recovered from virus-positive bodies and transplanted to patients in need.
Complicating the question is that people with long Covid, whose debilitating symptoms may persist for months, mostly do not test positive for the infection. Some researchers fear that the virus may be present nonetheless, hiding in so-called reservoirs within the body including some of the very organs given to transplant patients.
The risk is that surgeons may give the patient Covid, along with the organ, said Dr. Zijian Chen, medical director of the Center for Post-Covid Care at the Mount Sinai Health System. Its a tough ethical question. If the patient assumes the risk, should we do it?
Dr. David Klassen, chief medical officer at the United Network for Organ Sharing, which administers the nations organ procurement network, said decisions must be made on a case by case basis.
Many people waiting for organs are deathly ill, he said. Their life span may be down to a few days. If they dont get a transplant, they will not survive.

Northern Irelands Health Minister Is Suing Van Morrison Over Covid
Northern Irelands health minister has sued Van Morrison, who has said the ministers handling of Covid-19 restrictions was very dangerous.
Paul Tweed, the lawyer for the health minister, Robin Swann, confirmed on Monday that a lawsuit had been filed.
Legal proceedings are now at an advanced stage, with an anticipated hearing date early in 2022, Mr. Tweed said in an email, adding that he could not comment any further at this stage. The Belfast Telegraph reported the lawsuit on Sunday.
Joe Rice, a lawyer for Mr. Morrison, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday. He told The Associated Press that Mr. Morrison would contest the claim, arguing that the words used by him related to a matter of public interest and constituted fair comment.
In June, Mr. Morrison denounced Mr. Swann from the stage at the Europa Hotel in Belfast after several other concerts were canceled because of virus restrictions.
Mr. Morrison, 76, who was born in Belfast and was knighted in 2016, has dismissed the coronavirus pandemic the death toll for which surpassed five million people last week as media hype and has criticized Covid-19 restrictions though his music.
In the fall of 2020, as another wave of the pandemic raged, Mr. Morrison released three protest songs that criticized the measures that Northern Irelands government had taken to slow the spread of the virus. One song, No More Lockdown, claimed that scientists were making up crooked facts about the virus.

In addition to having a valid passport, all visitors to Mexico must complete an FMM tourist/immigration card. The Customs form is not needed at Cancun.
A Covid test is not required to enter Mexico, proof of vaccination is not required, and there’s no mandatory quarantine after arrival. The airline might say a health questionnaire is required, but it isn’t being collected upon arrival at Cancun airport .

Who Is Covered By The Presidential Proclamation Of October 25 2021
Presidential Proclamation 10294 of October 25, 2021 prohibits entry into the United States by air travel of “noncitizens who are nonimmigrants” unless they are fully vaccinated with an acceptable COVID19 vaccine.
Section 2 of the proclamation provides that the “entry into the United States by air travel of noncitizens who are nonimmigrants and who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is suspended and limited, except as provided in section 3 of this proclamation. This suspension and limitation on entry applies only to air travelers to the United States and does not affect visa issuance.”
U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. lawful permanent residents , and those entering on an immigrant visa are exempt from the Proclamation 10294 vaccination requirement, since it covers only “noncitizens who are nonimmigrants” traveling to the United States by air.
The language stating that the “suspension and limitation on entry applies only to air travelers to the United States and does not affect visa issuance” means that someone who is not fully vaccinated at the time of a visa application or interview could still be issued a visa by a U.S. consulate, although that individual would have to be fully vaccinated in order to board an aircraft destined for the United States or to be admitted to the United States.

Do You Need To Bring The Physical Card Abroad
Travelers should absolutely bring their physical proof of vaccination, like your CDC card, when traveling outside of the U.S., Victoria Walker, a senior travel reporter at The Points Guy, told HuffPost. While carrying a photo copy of your vaccination proof on your phone is acceptable in some instances, were seeing destinations move away from this kind of verification to using apps or physical cards to demonstrate proof.
Although there are a handful of countries that allow foreign travelers who have not been vaccinated, others require proof of vaccination to avoid quarantine, so its important to have that annoyingly-larger-than-wallet-sized paper card readily available during your journey.
And even if you travel to one of those countries that doesnt require visitors to be vaccinated, youll still need to present proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID test taken no more than three days before travel before boarding your return flight to the U.S.
In many of these instances, photos of your card or digital vaccination verification might be accepted, but its best to have that physical proof as well.
In the unlikely event your phone dies or malfunctions, the physical vaccination card will prevent you from delays to your trip or a quarantine, said Phil Dengler, co-founder of The Vacationer. Additionally, certain restaurants and other venues may require proof of vaccination with a physical card, so you should carry it at all times.
What Are The Entry Requirements For Mexico From The Uk

Travellers whether fully vaccinated or not do not currently need to show proof of a negative Covid test to enter Mexico, but they do need to register on the Mexico Vuela Seguro Platform before boarding their flight to Mexico, and should show the QR code upon arrival at the airport. They must also fill out a Health Questionnaire before arrival, containing details such as flight and contact details, recent travel history and health information. The land border between the US and Mexico is currently closed for all non-essential travel. Tourists should also fill out an immigration form, which they should keep on-hand when they enter and leave Mexico. These should be available on your flight, or can be filled out online in advance.
As with any overseas trip, its recommended that you check current travel advice in the days before departing the UK, as this can change regularly. We also recommend purchasing valid travel insurance with Covid cover in case of any changes during your trip.

Who Do I Tell That I Tested Positive
Think about where youve been and who might have inhaled your germs. Contact your employer and let them know. Most workplaces have protocols in place for contact tracing when an employee tests positive. You also want to alert anyone with whom youve spent time, going back at least two days before you got tested or started having symptoms, said Dr. Sax. The C.D.C. defines a close contact as someone who was less than six feet from you for 15 minutes or more.
It may feel overwhelming, or even shameful, to tell people about your positive test, said Dr. Ashish K. Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health. A lot of people think its some failure if you get infected, Dr. Jha said. This is an incredibly contagious variant. A lot of people are going to get it. That is not a moral failure.

Which Countries Allow People To Enter Without A Vaccine
There are currently a handful of countries that will allow visitors who have not been vaccinated to enter. A few of them are in Europe, and the others slightly farther afield. We recommend always closely following UK health guidance, including having your Covid vaccine and booster if you are able to. Before travelling, you should regularly check government guidelines both for the country you might be considering visiting and for the UK when you return.
You can find the full list of countries allowing people to enter without a vaccine below:
Hepatitis A And Typhoid
Hepatitis A is caused by eating or drinking contaminated food and water, and can be contracted anywhere in Mexico no matter what arrangements for food and accommodations have been made.
Typhoid is a bacterial disease caused by contact with contaminated food and water. The likelihood of contracting the disease is higher if you are staying in the rural areas, or with family or friends. If you enjoy authentic food experiences on vacation, it is highly recommended that you be vaccinated against typhoid.
If your shots are not yet complete, the Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccinations can be given in a single shot, and it lasts for a few years. Consultation with the Travel Vaccination Clinic will tell you how to get the vaccination, and how to eat and drink safely . The likelihood of contracting other diseases caused by contaminated food and water, such as cholera or Hepatitis E, will then be lessened as well.
