Nyc Subway Stations Will Now Offer Covid
The vaccination rate for nursing home workers is also vastly trailing the elderly and vulnerable residents they care for, with just 59 percent of staffers recorded as having received one or both shots, compared to 84 percent of facility residents statewide.
In the five boroughs some homes have reported upwards of 60 percent of workers still unvaccinated, according to state data.
Cuomo has been announcing incentives to the unvaccinated in recent weeks with free transit tickets at pop-up clinics in the New York City subway system and on commuter rail, as well as offering free sports game tickets to those who get the shots at ballgames.
Overall, the Empire States daily positivity rate has been on the decline and presently rests at a 1.52 percent average, with the weekly average recorded at 1.34 percent.
There are 2,026 patients currently hospitalized for the virus, with 491 admitted to the ICU.
Thirty-two New Yorkers passed away from the virus Tuesday as deaths nationwide hit their lowest rate in 10 months.
Nyc Parents Debate Covid Vaccine For Kids Ages 5 To 11
Pfizers announcement on Monday, Sept. 20, that its COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for children ages 5 to 11 has some Brooklyn parents celebrating, while others werent so sure. Outside P.S. 20 in Fort Greene, parents appeared to be equally divided over the latest development in COVID-19 vaccines for children.
New Yorks Health Commissioner Tests Positive As Omicron Surges
Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York began her coronavirus briefing on Monday by noting that the states health commissioner, Dr. Mary Bassett, had tested positive for the virus.
The commissioner is vaccinated, boosted and feeling well, Ms. Hochul said, adding that the initial positive result from a rapid test would be confirmed by a P.C.R. test.
Ms. Hochul said that the number of new cases in New York on Monday was a record. She tempered the news about Ms. Bassett by saying that data from other countries were showing the Omicron variant was milder than its predecessor, the Delta variant. But, the governor added, New Yorkers should take precautions nonetheless.
We have to take the steps now to make sure that everybody we love is with us for the next holiday season, the governor said.
Ms. Hochul stressed that the state was in a considerably better position to meet the surge than it had been nearly two years ago, when the pandemic began, and didnt anticipate any shutdowns. This is not March 2020, she said. Its not even December of 2020.
Six million masks are on their way to county executives and hospital bed capacity is rising, with 28 hospitals barred from doing elective surgeries, as opposed to 32 several weeks ago. Currently, the state holds 7,000 ventilators in reserve, she said.
The additional supplies are intended to help children remain in school, Ms. Hochul said. We are keeping our schools open, she said. Let me repeat that. We are keeping our schools open.

Hochul Adds 12000 Deaths To Publicized Ny Covid Tally
New Yorks new governor acknowledged that the state has had nearly 12,000 more deaths from COVID-19 than former Gov. Andrew Cuomo told the public. Gov. Kathy Hochuls office said on Wednesday, Aug. 25 that almost 55,400 people had of the coronavirus in New York based on death certificate data submitted to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Thats up from about 43,400 that Cuomo reported to the public as of his last day in office.
New York To Require Masks Indoors For Places Without Vaccine Mandates

New Yorkers will soon be required to wear masks in all indoor public places that don’t have a vaccine requirement for entry, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Friday.
The new mask requirement, which applies to staff and patrons, will begin Monday and last until Jan. 15 when officials will reevaluate the measure. The mandate is intended to curb COVID-19 outbreaks that may emerge during the holiday season as people spend more time indoors shopping, gathering and visiting holiday attractions, Hochul said.
Local health departments are being asked to enforce these requirements. Failure to comply with the measure could result in a maximum fine of $1,000 for each violation.
New York state is experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations, which strains a health care system also dealing with staffing shortages. More than 80% of adult New Yorkers are vaccinated, according to the governor.
“As governor, my two top priorities are to protect the health of New Yorkers and to protect the health of our economy,” Hochul said. “We shouldn’t have reached the point where we are confronted with a winter surge, especially with the vaccine at our disposal, and I share many New Yorkers’ frustration that we are not past this pandemic yet,” she said.

Fda Endorsement Essentially Calls For Johnson & Johnson To Be 2
An FDA panel unanimously recommended a Johnson and Johnson booster vaccine on Friday, Oct. 15. The terms of the endorsement essentially call for the J& J COVID-19 vaccine to be a two-dose shot, rather than the one-dose shot for which its been known since it first got emergency use authorization last spring.
The panel called for a second shot to be available to people 18 and older, at least two months after the first shot.
New York City Will Pay People $100 To Get Covid Vaccine
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has a plan for getting more people vaccinated against Covid-19: offer them a $100 incentive.
The mayor made the announcement Wednesday at a press conference. “It does not get better than that,” de Blasio said.
Beginning Friday, the cash reward will be handed out to city residents and employees who make an appointment at city-run vaccination sites. An official said at the press conference that first-time shot takers will either be mailed a pre-paid debit card or be issued a digital one immediately via email.
“I personally believe that the guarantee that right then and there you’re going to be rewarded, I think that’s going to make a big difference to people,” the mayor said.
When he was questioned about those who have already been vaccinated, de Blasio thanked them for doing “the right thing.”
“It was the right thing to do for yourself, for your family, for your community. You did the right thing and the reward is you were kept safe and you’re alive because of it,” he said. “But, we understand it’s been a huge amount of misinformation … particularly through social media getting anything but the truth. We got a lot we’ve got to overcome.”

Why People Remain Unvaccinated
Reasons given by the vaccine hesitant for not yet getting a shot.
Note: People could select more than one answer.
Dr. Laolu Fayanju, a family medicine doctor in Ohio, has encountered patients on both ends of the spectrum: those who are insistent in their refusal to be vaccinated, and others who agree to a shot after he painstakingly lays out facts.
Never did he expect that so many Americans would still be resisting a shot this many months into the vaccination effort.
I vacillate between anguish and anger, Dr. Fayanju said. We live in an era of unprecedented scientific breakthroughs and expertise. But were also stymied by the forces of misinformation that undermine the true knowledge that is out there.
Nyc Mask Mandate Debate Heats Up As Delta Variant Spurs New Covid Cases
Some New York City officials called on Mayor Bill de Blasio to retighten COVID-19 restrictions as the delta variant spurs an uptick in cases in the five boroughs. De Blasio, however, said he would hold off on reinstating an indoor mask mandate as COVID-19 hospitalizations in the city remain relatively low.

This Is How Many Covid
While the initial distribution of the vaccine took longer than federal projections had indicated, in recent months the U.S. has made great leaps in the worldwide race to administer vaccinations — and some states are faring far better than others. Under the current system, led by the White House COVID-19 Response Team, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sends states limited shipments of the vaccine as well as funding and tasks them with distributing the vaccine in accordance with relatively loose federal guidelines. The distribution of the vaccine is based on the size of the adult population in every state, which — according to some experts — can create inequities in states where the spread of COVID-19 is worse and a larger share of the population is at risk.
New York has received a total of 37,421,095 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of December 14. Adjusted for population, New York has received 192,361.2 vaccines per 100,000 residents — more than the national average of 181,961.7 vaccines per 100,000 Americans and the 14th most of any state.
While New York has so far received more vaccines per capita than the nation as a whole, the state has a need for vaccines commensurate with the rest of the country. As of December 14, there were 14,501.2 confirmed cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents in New York — in line with the national rate of 15,042.8 cases per 100,000 Americans and the 13th lowest of all 50 states.

Fox Tightens Its Vaccine Rule Removing A Test
Fox Corporation, the owner of Fox News, told employees on Friday that those working in New York City would have to show proof theyd had at least one dose of the Covid vaccine by Dec. 27, removing the option to get tested weekly instead.
The new policy was in keeping with New York Citys vaccine rule, which Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in early December and which is more stringent than a contested Biden administration rule requiring vaccine mandates or weekly testing at larger employers.
The New York City mandate, which requires on-site workers at all businesses to be vaccinated, is the countrys most sweeping local vaccine mandate and affects some 184,000 businesses.
Our policy reflects the guidelines of the mandate, a spokesman for Fox Corporation said in an email on Monday. More than 90 percent of Foxs employees are vaccinated, the company said.
New York is facing a surge of coronavirus cases. On Friday, the state reported 21,027 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day total since early in the pandemic, when testing was not as widely available.
New Yorks mandate for workplaces requires that recipients of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines receive a second dose, but the policy does not currently require booster shots.
Cnn Closes Its Us Offices To Nonessential Staff

CNN is closing its U.S. offices to all employees who are able to work remotely, according to an internal memo sent to staff on Saturday evening.
If your job does not REQUIRE you to be in the office in order to do it, please work from elsewhere, the networks president, Jeff Zucker, wrote to staff, citing a surge of Covid cases around the country and within the teams at CNN.
We are doing this out of an abundance of caution, the memo read. And it will also protect those who will be in the office by minimizing the number of people who are there.
Masks will be required at all times, unless you are eating, drinking or in a room by yourself, Mr. Zucker told staff.
Like other major media companies, CNN is making changes due to the new Covid surge. CNN offices are closing “to all employees who do not have to be in the office to do their jobs,” per internal memo tonight. Back to 2020 protocols, essentially.

CNNs announcement is part of a wave of large companies hitting the brakes on returning to the office, for many triggering uneasy feelings of déjà vu of the early pandemic.
Tim Cook, Apples chief executive, announced on Wednesday that the company was delaying the return to physical offices indefinitely. JP Morgan Chase told its workers on Friday they could work remotely until the end of the year. Lyft is not requiring workers to return to offices until at least 2023.

Nyc Vaccine Mandate For City Workers In Effect
New York Citys controversial COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all city employees went into effect at midnight on Nov. 1. As city workers rushed to meet the deadline, Mayor Bill de Blasio said 91% have gotten the shot as of Sunday, Oct. 31. That number rose from about 83% on Oct. 29. Overall, vaccination rates among workers impacted by the mandate increased by 14% over 10 days, according to the mayors office.

New Law Aimed At Housing Insecurity
Hochul also said she was signing the Family Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplements bill into law, helping thousands more New Yorkers move out of shelters and into homes. The bill was passed by state legislature in November.
If we want to get people out of shelters, we have to give them enough money to afford the rent, Hochul said.
The programs voucher payment will now be raised to 100% of fair market rate set by the federal government, according to the governor.
Hochul said the Legal Aid Society estimated an additional 2,300 New Yorkers will now be able to move out of shelters, on top of the 12,000 already helped by the program.
What Documentation Do I Need To Get Vaccinated
You must provide proof that you are in one of the groups who are eligible to receive the vaccine at this time. Because all New Yorkers age 12 and up are now eligible for the vaccine, this generally means that you only need to provide proof of identity. Sufficient identification includes a drivers license, passport, or any legal proof of your date of birth and residency.
Note that non-NYS residents may be vaccinated if they work or attend school in NYS.
For individuals under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent for vaccination. A parent or legal guardian must provide verbal consent either in person, or by phone, at the time of vaccine appointment.
Documentation of age may be required, and can be a Drivers license or non-driver ID Birth certificate issued by a state or local government Consulate ID Current U.S passport or valid foreign passport Permanent resident card Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship Life insurance policy with birthdate or Marriage certificate with birthdate.
If you are not a New York resident, you must bring proof that you work or study in New York State. Proof of NYS employment can be an employee ID card or badge, a letter from an employer or affiliated organization, or a pay stub.
You will be asked for insurance information BUT the vaccine is free and there will never be a charge to you. This information is for administrative use only.

Uk Data Says Booster Likely Protects Against Omicron Variant
The omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading rapidly throughout the United Kingdom and is likely to become the dominant strain of the virus there by the middle of this month, the U.K. Health Security Agency said Friday.
Early data and estimates released by the agency found omicron is more easily transmissible than other variants, the agency said in its latest variant technical briefing.
Other studies suggest that both the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines are less effective in preventing symptomatic infections in people exposed to omicron, though preliminary data released by the agency showed that effectiveness appears to rise to between 70% and 75% after a third booster dose.
The latest data show 568 confirmed or probable omicron infections as of Dec. 8, up from just two one week earlier. If current trends continue, the U.K. will exceed 1 million omicron infections by the end of December, the health security agency said.
Once again, we urge everyone who is able to get a booster jab to come forward and do so, Dr. Jenny Harries, the agencys chief executive, said in the briefing paper.
While underscoring earlier warnings about the risks posed by the omicron variant, the agency said the data should be treated with caution because the findings are based on early analysis of a small number of cases.

New Nyc Education Vaccine Mandate
Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday, Sept. 9, announced the city is expanding its vaccine mandate beyond just teachers and school staff.
All staff at city contracted child care and after-school programs will also need to be vaccinated, the mayor said. They will need to get at least one dose by Sept. 27, the same date as the teachers mandate.
