How Many People Are Vaccinated In The Us

The Current Pace Of Vaccination Has Slowed Significantly Since This Spring No Vaccine Has Been Authorized For Children Under 12

Here’s how many Americans have been vaccinated for Covid-19 so far

Based on the seven-day average of people receiving a first or single dose each day.

But the pace of vaccinations varies across the country. Many states in the South and West, for example, have vaccinated a smaller share of their population with a first or single dose than in other regions.

Where Can I Get Vaccinated

The majority of Australians aged 18 and over are now eligible for a Covid vaccination if they are willing to consider the AstraZeneca vaccine, and provided they do not have a history of some specific health conditions.

In addition to the governments official eligibility checker, which lists some clinics near your location which might have vaccination appointments available, there are a number of other helpful resources that can help you to find somewhere that has appointments open. You can find our page listing these resources here.

Who Hasnt Gotten The Covid

Thirty-seven percent of the population has yet to receive a dose.

Nine months since the first COVID-19 vaccine was approved, more than 120 million Americans have not yet received one dose.

Children younger than 12 are the only age group currently ineligible to receive the vaccine. There are 48 million people in that age group.

The remaining 72 million are older than 12 and therefore eligible to get vaccinated. Vaccination data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that lack of vaccination trends toward younger Americans and states in the Southeastern US.

Younger Americans are the largest share of the unvaccinated population. About 29% of unvaccinated people who are also eligible for the shots are between 12 and 24 years old.

Older Americans have been eligible for vaccination longer than other age groups and have higher overall vaccination rates. As of September 16, 7.3 million out of the 54.9 million people 65 and older, have not gotten a shot.

Which Type Of Covid

Different countries have ordered varying quantities of vaccines from a range of medical companies. These include the Pfizer / BioNtech jabs, Astrazeneca / Oxford University , the Russian Sputnik V vaccine from the Gamaleya Research Institute, and vaccines from the Chinese companies Sinovac and Sinopharm.

Federal Data On Covid

Coronavirus pandemic is now a race

The CDC reports demographic characteristics, including race/ethnicity, of people receiving COVID-19 vaccinations at the national level. As of October 4, 2021, CDC reported that race/ethnicity was known for 61% of people who had received at least one dose of the vaccine. Among this group, nearly two thirds were White , 11% were Black, 17% were Hispanic, 6% were Asian, 1% were American Indian or Alaska Native, and < 1% were Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, while 5% reported multiple or other race. CDC data also show that recent vaccinations are reaching a larger share of the Black population compared to their share of overall vaccinations and their share of the total population , which will narrow their gap in vaccinations at the national level. The share of overall vaccinations that have gone to Hispanic people is the same as their share of total population . The share of recent vaccinations going to Hispanic people is 15%, which represents a decline from earlier periods during which the share of recent vaccinations going to Hispanic people was larger than their share of the total population . While these data provide helpful insights at the national level, to date, CDC is not publicly reporting state-level data on the racial/ethnic composition of people vaccinated.

Coronavirus Cases In The United States By Region

This chart shows how reported cases per capita have changed in different parts of the country. The state with the highest recent cases per capita is shown.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California said on Twitter on Sunday that the state was monitoring the new variant. He did not announce any new measures but said that the coronavirus vaccine and booster shot were essential.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health echoed that message and said in a statement, More studies are needed to determine whether the Omicron variant is more contagious, more deadly or resistant to vaccine and treatments than other Covid-19 strains. The department added that people in Los Angeles should adhere to existing mask requirements.

While we are still learning much about Omicron, we know enough about Covid to take steps now that can reduce transmission as we prepare to better understand the additional strategies that may needed to mitigate this new variant of concerns, the statement said.

Health leaders in the United States have said that it is all but inevitable that the variant will reach the country and called this a time for caution but not panic.

Were going to get better information about this, Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, said on the CNN program State of the Union. But theres no reason to panic. But it is a great reason to go get boosted.

The best way to keep RI safe: Get vaccinated. Get your booster, he said on .

Status Of Leading Vaccines

This table documents the status of leading COVID-19 vaccines, showing authorizations for use in the US and other selected markets plus prices from information on purchase agreements compiled by UNICEF, where available.

The highly effective vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are based on a new technology that delivers a sequence of RNA that makes our own cells produce viral protein, triggering an immune response.

The drawback is that these vaccines are more expensive than those made by splicing genetic material from the coronavirus into a disabled version of another virus. Examples of such vaccines include those produced by the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca, based on research from Oxford University, Johnson & Johnson, and Russias Gamaleya Research Institute.

Other leading vaccines are based on inactivated versions of the coronavirus, a longstanding approach to making vaccines, or subunits of viral protein. One vaccine, from the Indian company Zydus Cadila, delivers a genetic sequence that makes a viral protein inside loops of DNA.

Biden Will Give An Update On Omicron Monday As Us Health Officials Urge Vaccinations

President Biden will give an update on the U.S. response to the Omicron variant on Monday, the White House said in a statement on Sunday evening, as top federal health officials urged unvaccinated Americans on get their shots and eligible adults to seek out boosters.

Appearing on morning talk shows on Sunday, Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, cautioned Americans that the emergence of Omicron and the uncertainty that surrounds it are reminders that the pandemic is far from over.

While the variant has yet to be detected in the United States, maintaining vigilance and safeguarding public health through inoculations, masking indoors and distancing, remains critical, he said.

I know, America, youre really tired about hearing those things, but the virus is not tired of us, Dr. Collins said. And its shape-shifting itself.

The White House said that President Biden met on Sunday with members of his Covid response team, including Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nations top infectious disease expert. With much still unknown about the Omicron variant, Dr. Fauci told the president that it would take approximately two more weeks to learn more about its transmissibility and severity, but said that he continues to believe that existing vaccines are likely to provide a degree of protection against severe cases of Covid, the White House said.

Vaccination Rates By County Social Vulnerability

Counties are ranked according to the Social Vulnerability Index, a C.D.C. indicator used in public health crises that is based on socioeconomic status, housing, transportation, race, ethnicity and language. Each countys vaccination rate is its share of all residents that have been fully vaccinated, a figure that does not reflect those who have only received one dose of a two-shot vaccine.

County-level data is most accurate in states that report county of residence to the CDC for a high percentage of people vaccinated. In states that report the county of residence at a lower rate, the vaccination rate for counties may appear to be lower than it actually is.

For this reason, data is not shown for states that included a county of residence for less than 80% of people vaccinated there. Some states, such as Texas and Hawaii, do not report county-level information to the CDC.

How Many People Are In Hospital With Coronavirus

The European Centre for Disease Control publishes daily hospital occupancy rates for a selection of European countries. We have added in several other countries around the world from a variety of different sources where we can find them.

The number of people hospitalised with the disease is a good way of tracking the epidemic over time, as it doesnt rely as much on testing and the way of measuring has generally remained constant over the pandemic.

It is also key to easing restrictions, as many countries will only do so once they are sure their health systems will not be overwhelmed.

Ecuador Imposes Travel Restrictions Due To Omicron Variant

From CNN’s Kiarinna Parisi and Karol Suarez

Ecuador announced new travel restrictions Monday on arrivals from a number of African countries in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant.

President Guillermo Lasso said people coming from any country on the banned list would be refused entry to Ecuador, even if they had only stopped over or transited through those countries.

The countries include South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and Namibia. The measures will go into effect Wednesday.

At the same time, Lasso said Ecuador’s border with Colombia would be reopened in phases, starting with the transport of goods.

In order to enter Ecuador, all travelers must present their vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours. Children under the age of 16 must present a negative PCR test.

At least 70 countries and territories have now imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread of the new variant.

Who Can Get A Vaccine Now

All those aged 16 and over can now get a Covid vaccine, as well as children with underlying health conditions who are aged 12 and above.

Those of the same age who live with people who have a suppressed immune system can also be vaccinated, to protect family members.

While wealthier countries have vaccinated a large portion of their populations, many developing nations particularly in Africa still have very low vaccination rates. This doesnt only hurt the people of Africa it hurts all of us, World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in September. The longer vaccine inequity persists, the more the virus will keep circulating and changing, the longer the social and economic disruption will continue, and the higher the chances that more variants will emerge that render vaccines less effective.

How Each State Compares To The National Share Of Vaccinated People

Answering COVID vaccine questions: Have people died after getting vaccinated? Can the vaccine he…

There are many reasons eligible people are not vaccinated. Surveys have indicated that some people are adamant in their refusal of the coronavirus vaccines, while others are open to getting a shot but have been putting it off or want to wait and see before making a decision.

The first group, surveys have shown, tends to be disproportionately white, rural, evangelical Christian and politically conservative. The second group tends to be a more diverse and urban group, including many younger people, Black and Latino Americans, and Democrats.

In April, The New York Times analyzed vaccine records and voter records in every county in the United States and found that both willingness to receive a coronavirus vaccine and actual vaccination rates were lower, on average, in counties where a majority of residents voted to re-elect former President Donald J. Trump in 2020.

Younger Adults Are Likelier To Be Uncertain About Vaccination Compared With Older Adults

The surveys revealed other vaccine hesitancy trends. In the Household Pulse Survey, 21% of people with a previous COVID-19 diagnosis say they are less than certain to get fully vaccinated compared with 12% of people who didnt have a prior diagnosis.

The survey also shows that 19% of the population who have at most a high school degree or GED were unlikely to get vaccinated compared with 6% of adults with a bachelors degree or higher.

In the CDC survey, 22% of uninsured adults indicated they likely would not get vaccinated compared to 13% of insured people. Nineteen percent of adults in rural areas said the same, compared with 13% of urban residents and 14% of suburban residents.

How Do Death Rates From Covid

Our World in Data presents the data and research to make progress against the worlds largest problems. This data presentation is part of our work on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

To understand how the pandemic is evolving, its crucial to know how death rates from COVID-19 are affected by vaccination status. The death rate is a key metric that can accurately show us how effective vaccines are against severe forms of the disease. This may change over time when there are changes in the prevalence of COVID-19, and because of factors such as waning immunity, new strains of the virus, and the use of boosters.

On this page, we explain why it is essential to look at death rates by vaccination status rather than the absolute number of deaths among vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

We also visualize this mortality data for the United States, England, and Chile.

Ideally we would produce a global dataset that compiles this data for countries around the world, but we do not have the capacity to do this in our team. As a minimum, we list country-specific sources where you can find similar data for other countries, and we describe how an ideal dataset would be formatted.

Closing The Vaccination Equity Gap

Washington County is partnering with more than 70 community organizations to close the COVID-19 vaccination equity gap. Our COVID-19 , submitted to the state on September 28, outlines the progress we have made in the last four months since our first in May 2021. This includes significant progress vaccinating Black and Latina/o/x adults. However, there is still work to do as vaccination rates in these groups remain significantly lower than in other racial/ethnic groups in the county.

Washington County was the first county in the state to vaccinate 80% of all adults. Governor Kate Brown congratulated us and partner during a September 22 visit to the mobile vaccination clinic at the Forest Grove Farmers Market. See and governors news release in and .

I Had Covid Is It Safe For Me To Get A Vaccine If So When Could I Get One

Around Half of Unvaccinated Americans Indicate They Will ...

Its safe, and probably even beneficial, for anyone who has had Covid to get the vaccine at some point, experts said.

Theres nothing deleterious about getting a boost to an immune response that youve had before, Dr. Pepper said. You could get an actually even better immune response by boosting whatever immunity you had from the first infection by a vaccine.

In fact, at a meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Moncef Slaoui, chief adviser to Operation Warp Speed, said up to 10 percent of participants in clinical trials for the vaccines had been infected with the virus without knowing it. Their immune responses to the vaccineare being analyzed, he said.

If youve already had Covid-19, you can afford to wait awhile for the vaccine.

Studies from Dr. Peppers team and others have shown that the immune response evolves over the first few months after infection, but everyone who has had Covid has some level of protection during that time.

We didnt see anybody who didnt develop some sort of an immune response, she said. I dont think those people need to rush out and go get the vaccine in the same way that people who are highly susceptible really do.

The A.C.I.P., which makes recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about vaccine distribution, said at a meeting on Wednesday that people who had not been infected should get priority over those who contracted the virus in the past 90 days.
