Providing Every Resource To The Fda To Support Timely Review Of Vaccines For Individuals Under The Age Of 12

President Bidens plan supports the independent scientific review of a vaccine for those individuals under the age of 12 and will provide the FDA with any needed resources to support its ongoing efforts to do this safely and as quickly as possible. The nations public health officials will keep the public updated on the process so that parents can plan.

Providing Easy Access To Booster Shots For All Eligible Americans

The Administration is preparing for boosters to start as early as the week of September 20th, subject to authorization or approval by the FDA and a recommendation from ACIP. Getting a booster will be easy. Booster shots will be free, and widely available across 80,000 locations from pharmacies to doctors offices to health centers.

The Continuing Urgency Of Vaccination Efforts

Our findings highlight the ongoing tragedy of preventable death and hospitalization occurring among unvaccinated Americans. Daily vaccination rates have ticked up recently but only recently to 60 percent of the U.S. population a lower rate than that achieved by dozens of other countries. As immunity wanes and breakthrough infections continue to emerge, it is clear we must vaccinate to many more people building on the tremendous, though mostly invisible, successes the U.S. vaccination program has accomplished thus far.

As the Omicron variant begins to spread and the Delta variant surge continues, our results point to the tremendous power of vaccination to reduce disease and death from COVID-19. Sadly, they also highlight the ongoing tragic consequences of failing to vaccinate every eligible American.

Are The Most Vulnerable Counties Being Vaccinated

Coronavirus: Deaths at 20

Speed isnt the only priority for the countrys vaccination campaign. The Biden administration has also committed to distributing shots equitably to the communities most affected by the pandemic.

Yet many months into the rollout, the most socially vulnerable counties in the U.S. have a lower vaccination rate on average than the nations least vulnerable. The majority of the most disadvantaged counties with the fewest fully vaccinated people are in the South, while the most vaccinated, least vulnerable counties are in the Midwest and Northeast.

Daily Reported Doses Given By Manufacturer

Each line shows the seven-day average.

In December 2020, federal regulators gave emergency use authorization to two-dose vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna. Regulators authorized Johnson & Johnsons one-dose vaccine in February, but recommended a pause in its use on April 13 because of reports of blood clots in a small number of patients. All 50 states paused or recommended that providers pause those vaccinations. The government ended the Johnson & Johnson pause on April 23, clearing the way for states to resume vaccinations.

On Aug. 12, regulators gave emergency use authorization for people with weakened immune systems to get a third dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and expanded that authorization in September and October to include booster shots for many Americans.

On Aug. 23, the federal government approved the Pfizer vaccine for those 16 and older, the first full approval of a Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

The F.D.A. cleared the Pfizer vaccine for children, ages 5 to 11, on Oct. 29. Emergency use authorization of the vaccine continues for those ages 5 to 15 and for those receiving additional doses.

Continue To Require Masking On Federal Property

President Bidens Executive Order, Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask-Wearing, requires masks and specific physical distancing requirements in federal buildings, on federal lands, on military bases, and other overseas locations, consistent with CDC guidance. President Bidens plan will ensure that these requirements remain in place as we continue to battle COVID-19.

How Would Differing Assumptions Affect These Results

US reaches goal of partially vaccinating 70 per cent of American adults | Coronavirus Vaccine

Changing selected assumptions in our analysis could reduce or increase the estimates we report here. For example, our model assumes that the reopening of businesses and schools, along with the increase in social gatherings that occurred during summer 2021, continued despite the Delta wave. If people had restricted social activities and travel, or businesses or schools had closed in response to the Delta surge, many deaths and hospitalizations could have been averted even in the absence of vaccination. However, it seems unlikely that the entire nation would have returned to the restrictions imposed during the first year of the pandemic.

Conversely, the number of deaths estimated by the model may be too low if hospital capacity were exceeded . Moreover, the model estimates only death attributable to COVID-19. Preventable deaths due to other causes would have increased too, as occurred early in the pandemic in cities like New York City and Los Angeles.5

Looking Ahead: Projected Dates For Vaccination Coverage

Researchers have estimated that around 70% to 85% of the country needs to be immune to the coronavirus for COVID-19 to stop spreading through communities and peter out.

People who have recovered from a coronavirus infection may have existing protection against reinfection. However, it’s unclear how strong this natural immunity is and how long it lasts, so public health officials recommend that everyone aged 12 and up get vaccinated against the disease, including those who were previously infected.

Ensuring Americans Know Where To Get A Booster

In the initial vaccine roll-out in December, many Americans were confused about available vaccination sites and supplies. But now, when the booster shots are approved, individuals will be able to find a vaccination site at Vaccines.gov, including what vaccines are available at each site and, for many sites, what appointments are open. A toll-free number, 1-800-232-0233, will also be available in over 150 languages. Americans who have already utilized the text code 438829 or WhatsApp to get vaccine information will automatically receive a text with information on boosters, if and when recommended.

Keeping Schools Safely Open

COVID Data Tracker Weekly Review

A top priority for the Biden Administration since Day One has been to reopen schools safely and keep them open. The Administration has taken significant actions to get our kids back in the classroom, including providing $130 billion in American Rescue Plan funds to help schools reopen, accelerate students academic growth, address inequities exacerbated by the pandemic, allow local school districts to implement CDC-recommended COVID-19 prevention strategies, and support student and educators social, emotional, and mental health needs. We know how to keep students safe in schools by taking the right steps to prevent transmissionincluding getting all staff and eligible students vaccinated, implementing universal indoor masking, maintaining physical distancing, improving ventilation, and performing regular screening testing for students and school staff. The Presidents plan calls for additional actions to ensure all schools consistently implement these science-based prevention strategies recommended by the CDC so that they can remain open for in-person learning and maintain the health and safety of all students, staff, and families.

The FDA is undergoing a process now to evaluate a vaccine for children under the age of 12, and under the Presidents plan, the Administration will do whatever it takes to support those efforts, while continuing to respect and defer to the scientific decision-making of the agency.

Requiring Employers To Provide Paid Time Off To Get Vaccinated

To continue efforts to ensure that no worker loses a dollar of pay because they get vaccinated, OSHA is developing a rule that will require employers with more than 100 employees to provide paid time off for the time it takes for workers to get vaccinated or to recover if they are under the weather post-vaccination. This requirement will be implemented through the ETS.

The Us Is Vaccinating Nearly 1m People Per Day How Does Canada Compare

  • Copy article linkCopy link

As the United States moves to vaccinate around one million people per day against the novel coronavirus, Canada appears to be falling short.

As of Sunday, Canada had administered 816,557 vaccine doses. In comparison, the U.S. had administered 20,537,990, according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On a per capita basis, the U.S. has so far inoculated 5.2 per cent of its population, while Canada stands at 1.1.

In total, 1,119,225 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to the provinces and territories as of Jan. 21. However, only 72.9 per cent of those doses have been administered.

This is much more than the States however, where the U.S. government has administered 49.6 per cent of the 41,411,550 million doses delivered throughout the country.

While Canadas neighbours to the South were off to a sluggish start, the CDC told the Associated Press that U.S. was steadily ramping up vaccinations, with health officials administering 1.6 million vaccine doses on Friday.

Last Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, U.S. President Joe Bidens chief medical adviser for COVID-19, the presidents goal of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days an absolutely a doable thing.

Did Canada make a wrong turn?

Not necessarily, experts say.

But Colin Furness, an epidemiologist teaching at the University of Toronto, told Global News that administering doses faster doesnt always equal a slower mortality rate.

Cnbc Health & Science

Read CNBC’s latest global coverage of the Covid pandemic:

That new case growth is showing signs of plateauing following a low number of new cases reported for Sunday, but many states did not report data because of Easter. It will likely take a couple of days for the holiday weekend case and death counts to be reported and collected, at which point the latest direction of the outbreak’s trend will become more clear.

Michigan, where average daily new cases are up 39% compared with a week ago, is experiencing the most severe outbreak in the country on a per capita basis. The state’s seven-day average of nearly 6,500 new cases per day is approaching levels seen during the winter surge, when case counts there peaked at an average of about 8,300 per day.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, said Monday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” the most recent uptick in Michigan and other states like Minnesota and Massachusetts are because of multiple causes. The spread of virus variants, colder climates that make it harder to gather outside, schools being reopened, and increased mobility among residents are contributing to the spread, Gottlieb said.

He doesn’t expect these factors to fuel a nationwide surge in new cases.

What Share Of The Population Has Been Fully Vaccinated Against Covid

“1 Crore Vaccines Per Day By Mid-July”: Top Medical Body Chief

The following chart shows the share of the total population that has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This represents the share that have received all doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol. If a person receives the first dose of a 2-dose vaccine, this metric stays the same. If they receive the second dose, the metric goes up by 1.

This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.

Increasing Testing & Requiring Masking

It will take time for the newly vaccinated to get protection from the virus. As we continue to combat COVID-19, testing is a key tool to identify infected individuals and prevent spread to others. Likewise, masking can also help slow and contain the spread of the virusand the combination of increased vaccinations and masking will have a major impact on COVID-19 transmission. President Bidens plan takes new actions to increase the amount of testingin your own home, at pharmacies, and in your doctors officeand ensures that strong mask requirements remain in place.

Increasing Support For Covid

The Presidents plan will provide additional support for hospitals facing capacity issues. The Department of Defense is announcing a commitment to double the number of DOD teams of clinicians deployed to support hospitals battling a surge in COVID-19 cases. These clinicians will be available for mission assignment through FEMAs response across surge states. Since the Administration launched the COVID-19 Surge Response Teams, nearly 1000 personnel have been deployed to states across the country to respond to the Delta variant, including more than 500 highly skilled health care professionals from across HHS network of physicians, nurses, and other providers who are called up to respond to emergencies, FEMAs network of emergency medical services providers, and DODs medical teams. These professionals have surged into COVID-19 ICUs and other acute care hospital settings to support and relieve overburdened local health care workers. In addition, the Department of Veterans Affairs have opened up over 150 hospital beds in Veterans Affairs facilities across surge states in order to reduce the burden on local hospitals.

The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines require two doses, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one for the recipient to be fully vaccinated. For the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, a second shot should be administered about three or four weeks after the first, depending on which of the vaccines was given.

Everyone who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is eligible for a booster shot if it has been at least two months since their initial vaccine.

All adults who received the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine are eligible for a booster shot six months after they received their second dose.

Learn more about the CDC recommendations: Who’s eligible for a COVID-19 booster shot?

Immunocompromised people who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are eligible for a third shot four weeks after their second dose. This shot is not considered a booster, but rather part of the normal vaccination course for this group, which includes people who are receiving cancer treatment and people who have received an organ transplant, among others.

If you’re not sure whether or not you should get a booster dose of vaccine, talk to your doctor.
