What Percentage Of People In The Us Are Vaccinated

How Cdc Estimates Vaccination Coverage

Coronavirus Vaccines vs. NON COVID-19 related deaths (New Data)

CDC estimates the number of people receiving at least one dose, the number of people who are fully vaccinated, and the number of people with booster doses. CDC estimates are based on data that include a dose number . To protect the privacy of vaccine recipients, CDC receives data without any personally identifiable information . Each jurisdiction or provider uses a unique person identifier to link records within their own systems. However, CDC cannot use the unique person identifier to identify individual people by name.

There are challenges in linking records when someone receives vaccine doses in different jurisdictions or from different providers. That person could receive different unique person identifiers for different doses. CDC may not be able to link multiple unique person identifiers for different jurisdictions or providers to a single person, and subsequent doses may appear to be a first dose when reported. Thus, CDCs data may over-estimate first doses and under-estimate subsequent doses.

CDC encourages people to bring their CDC COVID-19 Vaccination record card with them to their appointment for another COVID-19 vaccine dose because having the card will help ensure the doses are linked.

How Many Doses Have Been Donated By Each Country

These charts show the cumulative number of doses donated to the COVAX initiative by different countries, broken down by whether the donations have only been announced, actually donated, or delivered to the recipients. This is only available for a select number of countries for which the COVID-19 Task Force reports the necessary data.

The first chart shows the number of doses donated, while the next three charts show that number adjusted for:

  • The population of the donating country
  • The GDP of the donating country
  • The number of doses administered by the donating country to its own population.
  • COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access

COVAX is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines directed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations , and the World Health Organization . COVAX coordinates international resources to enable low-to-middle-income countries equitable access to COVID-19 tests, therapies, and vaccines.

Map: How Many People Are Vaccinated In Each County

County-level data is most accurate in states that report county of residence to the CDC for a high percentage of people vaccinated. In states that report the county of residence at a lower rate, the vaccination rate for counties may appear to be lower than it actually is.

For this reason, data is not shown for states that included a county of residence for less than 80% of people vaccinated there. Hawaii does not report county of residence information to the CDC.

Answers To Key Questions About Covid

To help answer common vaccine questions, we consulted Dr. Stanley Perlman, a professor at the University of Iowas Carver College of Medicine and a member of the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations vaccine advisory committee, and Angela Shen, a visiting scientist with the Vaccine Education Center at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.

When can I get a vaccine?

Now, if you’re at least 12 years old.

All three vaccines are widely available for anyone over 18, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said kids ages 12 to 18 can get Pfizer-BioNTech’s shot.

    Where are COVID-19 vaccines available?

COVID-19 vaccines are now available in a variety of locations, including pharmacies, hospitals and public clinics. To find an appointment in your area, you can search VaccineFinder.org, which collects data directly from government agencies.

How much does it cost to get vaccinated?

Nothing for the vaccine itself. The federal Operation Warp Speed program funded vaccine development with the intent that they be offered free to all Americans, regardless of insurance status.

The caveat: The facility where you get the vaccine may choose to charge something like an administrative fee.

Can I choose which vaccine I get?

Probably. Vaccine supply is now good enough that many clinics stock different types and allow people to choose which one they want.

What are the differences between the shots?

Can pregnant people get the vaccine?

    Can kids get the vaccine?

    Vaccinations By Age Group

    50%

*Includes people vaccinated in all 50 states, territories and three countries with special agreements with the United States: Palau, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.

Vaccination and booster coverage varies widely by age, in part because older adults became eligible first and some younger children are not yet permitted. In addition, booster eligibility depends on the time since an individuals last shot. Vaccinations also vary among states, and jurisdictions with lower adult vaccination rates also tend to have reduced coverage among children and teens.

The CDC’s data tracker compiles data from healthcare facilities and public health authorities. It updates daily to report the total number of people in each state who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The numbers reported by the CDC may vary from the numbers published on individual states’ public health websites, as there may be reporting lags between the states and the CDC.

As of 6 a.m. EDT Feb 2, a total of 211,954,555 Americans had been fully vaccinated, or 63.8 percent of the country’s population, according to the CDC’s data.

Vermont has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration data tracker.

So What Is The Full Picture What Can We Expect With Omicron

    The facts are:

    • Locally, our hospital systems are stretched to capacity. This may affect our ability to care for patients with other health care problems
    • Based on a study recently published by Discovery Health, a South African health insurer, the two-dose Pfizer vaccine appears to be about 30% effective at preventing an omicron infection overall, but 70% effective at preventing hospitalizations. Please get vaccinated and boosted
    • Based on data from the United Kingdom and South Africa, omicron appears to be more transmissible than delta. And preliminary data from a South African study indicate omicron may cause slightly less severe disease, with a 30% reduction in hospitalizations

Some are celebrating this last point that omicron is more contagious but less severe. I explain why we should not be celebrating this with a mathematical exercise in my Dec. 15 update. You can watch the exercise below, beginning at about the 12-minute mark.

Map: See How Many Adults In The Us Have Not Been Vaccinated By State

Nearly 70 million unvaccinated adults in the U.S. could find a new reason to get vaccinated after the Food and Drug Administration announced Monday it had granted full approval to Pfizer-BioNTechs Covid-19 vaccine for people ages 16 and up.

A survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation in June found that 3 in 10 unvaccinated adults would be more likely to get the shot if one of the vaccines received FDA approval.

Including U.S. territories, about 73 percent of people in the U.S. have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In Texas, where Covid cases are averaging more than 17,000 a day, nearly 70 percent of the states adult population has received their first shot, which means more than 6.6 million adults in the state have yet to get one shot of the Covid vaccines.

Use this map and table to see what the vaccination rates are in the states and territories across the United States.

What Share Of The Population Has Received At Least One Dose Of Vaccine

The following chart shows the share of the total population that has received at least one dose of vaccine. This may not equal the share with a complete initial protocol if the vaccine requires two doses. If a person receives the first dose of a 2-dose vaccine, this metric goes up by 1. If they receive the second dose, the metric stays the same.

Are The Most Vulnerable Counties Being Vaccinated

Which countries are winning the COVID

Speed hasnt been the only priority for the countrys vaccination campaign. The Biden administration has also committed to distributing shots equitably to the communities most affected by the pandemic.

More than a year into the rollout, the most socially vulnerable counties in the U.S. have a lower vaccination rate on average than the nations least vulnerable. A majority of the most disadvantaged counties with the fewest fully vaccinated people are in the South, while the most vaccinated, least vulnerable counties are in the Midwest and the Northeast.

The Our World in Data COVID vaccination data

To bring this pandemic to an end, a large share of the world needs to be immune to the virus. The safest way to achieve this is with a vaccine. Vaccines are a technology that humanity has often relied on in the past to bring down the death toll of infectious diseases.

Within less than 12 months after the beginning of the pandemic, several research teams rose to the challenge and developed vaccines that protect from SARS-CoV-2.

Now the challenge is to make these vaccines available to people around the world. It will be key that people in all countries not just in rich countries receive the required protection. To track this effort we at Our World in Data are building the international vaccination dataset that we make available on this page. It is updated each morning, with the most recent official numbers up to the previous day.

Biden Administration Authorizes Emergency Monkeypox Vaccine Strategy

Giving shots between the skin, instead of under it, will stretch a limited supply, but there’s little data to support its efficacy.

The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization on Tuesday for health care providers to administer the monkeypox vaccine in a new way intended to stretch the nations short vaccine supply.

There is limited data supporting the methods efficacy, indicating how much pressure the Biden administration is undernow to stop the spreading virus after its arrival in the spring caught the administration flat-footed.

The emergency use authorization allows providers to administer a fraction of a dose of the Jynneos monkeypox vaccine to adults between layers of skin instead of beneath it. Two doses of the vaccine four weeks apartwill still be required, but the new method will increase the number of doses available by up to five-fold, according to the FDA.

The EUA also allows individuals under 18 who are at high risk for monkeypox infection to receive the vaccine through the originally approved subcutaneous method.

White House National Monkeypox Response Coordinator Robert Fenton said the move is a game changer when it comes to our response and our ability to get ahead of the virus, during a briefing with reporters. Its safe, its effective, and it will significantly scale the volume of vaccine doses available for communities across the country, he said.

    Federal Data On Covid

The CDC reports demographic characteristics, including race/ethnicity, of people receiving COVID-19 vaccinations at the national level, including both people who have received one dose and people who have been recently vaccinated . CDC reports that as of July 6, 2022, race/ethnicity was known for 75% of people who had received at least one dose of the vaccine. White people make up a smaller share of people who have received at least one dose and people who have recently received a vaccination compared to their share of the total population . Black people make up 10% of people who recently received a vaccination, which is the same as their share of people who have received at least one dose , and smaller than their share of the total population , Hispanic people make up a larger share of vaccinated people and people who recently received a vaccination compared to their share of the total population . The overall share of vaccinated people who are Asian is similar to their share of total population , while they make up a larger share of people who recently got vaccinated .

While these data provide helpful insights at the national level, significant gaps in data remain to help understand who is and is not getting vaccinated. To date, CDC is not publicly reporting state-level data on the racial/ethnic composition of people vaccinated or receiving booster doses. Moreover, CDC is not reporting racial and ethnic data for vaccinations among children.

    What To Watch For

These Hospitalized COVID Patients Still Refuse to Get Vaccinated

How many senior citizens will receive booster shots, which are now authorized for the Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. So far 32.4% of those 65 and older have received a booster shot, according to the CDC, compared with 14.4% of U.S. adults overall. Booster shots have been recommended in light of evidence showing the vaccines effectiveness against Covid-19 infections wanes over timethough they remain highly protective against severe illness and deaththough there may be struggles with ensuring all vaccinated seniors get a third shot. California officials expressed concern last week that demand for booster shots in the state has been lower than expected, particularly among older adults.

Facts About Americans And Coronavirus Vaccines

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed more than 670,000 lives in the United States as of Sept. 20, and the spread of the highly transmissible delta variant has added new urgency to the federal governments efforts to vaccinate all Americans against the virus. As the drive to inoculate more people continues, here are 10 facts about Americans and COVID-19 vaccines, based on an of more than 10,000 U.S. adults.

Pew Research Center published this analysis to examine how COVID-19 vaccination patterns in the United States differ by demographic, religious and political factors, and to assess broader public attitudes on key questions related to coronavirus vaccines. The findings in this analysis are based primarily on a survey of 10,348 U.S. adults, conducted from Aug. 23 to 29, 2021.

Everyone who took part in the survey is a member of Pew Research Centers American Trends Panel , an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way, nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATPs methodology. Here are the questions asked in the August survey, along with responses, and its methodology.

People Who Received A First Booster Dose

Represents the total number of fully vaccinated people who later received another dose of any COVID-19 vaccine on or after. This measure does not consider how much time has passed since the recipient was vaccinated or whether the vaccine recipient is immunocompromised, has an underlying medical condition, or is at high-risk from occupational and institutional exposure to COVID-19.People who are fully vaccinatedare those whoreceived the second dose in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine primary series or one dose of a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine primary series.

On this language was changed to reflect the recommendation for a booster dose. People who received an additional dose since August 13, 2021, are included in this count.
