As of Monday, April 19, everyone in Massachusetts over the age of 16 will be eligible for a coronavirus vaccine. This is not, however, the only way to get yourself a vaccine. Thousands of vaccine appointments are arranged in Massachusetts each day at a growing network of smaller facilities. You can get an appointment at pharmacies, local clinics, grocery stores, and neighborhood health centers. Taking this route instead of the mass vax site path is a much more chaotic system, and instead of rewarding patience, it tends to reward cunning, preparation, and technological know-how.

Cvs Books All Available Wny Vaccine Appointments Within Hours Of Registration Start Time
On Thursday morning, CVS opened up registration for COVID-19 vaccine appointments for those who are eligible.
Vaccines will be given in Batavia, Hamburg, Lewiston, Olean and Westfield. By 8:30 a.m., all appointments at these western New York locations were booked.
In a news release, CVS says the in-store vaccinations will begin on Friday.

How To Book Your Appointments
When it is your turn to book your vaccination, visit NHS.UK
When you book, you will be asked for information including:
- your name and date of birth
- your NHS number this is a 10 digit number you can find on any letter the NHS has sent you, for example, 485 777 3546
If you do not know your NHS number you can still book.
Please ensure that you book your appointments for both your first and second dose and press the save button to confirm.
Please use the NHS website first. If you cannot use the NHS website, you can phone 119 free of charge. You can ask someone else to do this for you if you prefer.
At times, the phone line might get very busy and this may mean waiting to speak to someone. The phone line is open from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week. You may choose to ring later in the day when it is less busy. Interpreters will be available on request.

Where the distance to travel makes this difficult for you, you will be able to have the vaccine at your local GP vaccination service. More Frustration With Vaccine Appointment Registration At Cvs
NORFOLK, Va. As promised, CVS released more available appointments for COVID-19 vaccines Thursday morning. However, they were gone within minutes.
CVS will start actually administering the doses on Friday, Feb. 12. They have 26,000 doses to start through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, and 26,000 additional are expected next week.
Many people contacted 10 On Your Side with their frustrations. Weve heard from a few people who were able to make an appointment, but most people did not have that outcome and are frustrated.
At 4:30 Thursday morning, Robert Place was on the CVS website, hopeful that he beat the rush.
When I got to the final page to make the appointment, it came up with another page that said our scheduler is being updated and it did that for the next hour and a half, said Place. I could not get in. That whole time, Im watching the cities in dwindle away.
He was taken to another page, with another 30 minute wait.
I thought I was hitting pay dirt, Place said. I wound up just hitting dirt.
Place never made an appointment, after hours on the computer.
Total frustration, he said. I dont know why the system kept saying that it was being updated.
His new plan is to wake up even earlier.
Im going to try again at midnight tonight and see if I can get that to work, said Place. It would mean that I dont have to worry so much about being, about contracting this COVID-19.

NORFOLK, Va. COVID-19 vaccine appointments filled up quickly at CVS pharmacies around Hampton Roads after the pharmacy said more would be available Thursday.
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, all appointments to get a shot at any store around the region were ‘fully booked’ according to the CVS website.
A corporate spokesperson confirmed that all appointments had been filled for the week, but said more appointments would be available next week when the pharmacy is expected to get its next shipment of vaccines in Virginia.
The pharmacy’s vaccine rollout didn’t go over smoothly this week.
When getting CVS onboard for vaccinations, the Virginia Department of Health requested it to only schedule appointments for people who had pre-registered at their local health departments and were waiting their turns for a shot.
That didn’t work, so VDH asked the pharmacy to open their schedule early and allow local health departments to register people themselves. However, CVS couldn’t limit online access to just the health districts, so anybody online could sign up for an appointment which led to more confusion and frustration.
CVS said they’re only giving shots to people ages 65 and over at this time even if they aren’t registered with their local health departments.
Appointments are added on a rolling basis as they become available. The pharmacy gets 26,000 vaccine doses each week which are divided between the 36 stores that are offering appointments.

Other People Who Are Age 18 Years And Older
People who are ages 18 years and older may get a booster shot based on their individual risks and benefits. This recommendation may change in the future as more data become available.
All people ages 18 years and older who received a J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months ago should get a booster shot, for a total of two shots. A single dose of the J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine has lower vaccine effectiveness compared to two doses.

As Massachusetts enters Phase 2 of the COVID vaccine timeline, nearly a million more Bay State residents will be eligible to receive the vaccine. And with this, demand has skyrocketed.
Massachusetts health officials made 10,000 appointments at mass vaccination sites available Wednesday morning to be booked online, all of which were booked in a matter of hours. About 35,000 more appointments were made available Thursday.

CVS Health said Wednesday that no appointments will be required to get the vaccine at 1,115 locations in California, though people can still sign up for same-day scheduling at CVS.com. In some cases, appointments may be found within an hour of trying to schedule one.

If you got your first shot, and for some reason dont have a second shot scheduled, CVS can help. The pharmacy has a separate fast lane for people who need to need the follow-up dose. People who are due for the second shot in 48 hours or less are pushed to the front of the line, vaccine hunters tell us.
Sign Up For Alerts And Check Providers Frequently
Take whatever advantage you can get by signing up for whatever text, email, or smart phone alerts you can find.
For those providers that dont have alert options, like H-E-B or Walmart, check their sites frequently. Appointments may pop up throughout the day, and checking at unusual hours can help, too.
Where I get the most time – most people, I should say – is early morning, 2 to 4 oclock in the morning, said James. Im like busting people out left and right.
If you find a vaccine provider with a wait list, go ahead and sign up, too. Though you may want to use that as a backup plan while you continue to search for something sooner.

Dont Rely Solely On Mass Vaccination Sites
Large vaccination sites like the Alamodome or the WellMed clinics may be useful, but they shouldnt be the end-all, be-all of your search. Lisa Holguin and Karen James both recommend you also check with providers that have fewer doses per location.
I would recommend looking at local pharmacies. Theres a bunch of them that are coming out, said Holguin, who has signed up at least 420 people so far.
James, who has signed up more than 1,000 people so far, said she mainly sticks to H-E-B and Walmart. Those two, along with CVS Pharmacy, are poised to be big vaccine providers in the weeks to come, though they dont have the same profile as the largest sites.

The Website Findashotorg May Be A Better Way To Get A Covid
David Newell’s site takes the extra step of automatically checking retailers sites for appointments.
Like millions of Americans, Wharton MBA for Executives student David D. Newell found lining up COVID-19 vaccine shots for his parents extremely exasperating.
The difference is that Newell, 32, had the technical know-how to make the onerous task easier.
The result is findashot.org, a website that allows consumers to find vaccine appointments at some retailers across the country, including CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens in the Philadelphia area, with one search, rather than having to go from website to website.
The idea is to aggregate appointment availability, not just inventory availability, which a lot of the projects out there and even the CDCs partner vaccinefinder.org are focused on, said Newell, who lives in Dallas. Knowing which stores have doses is necessary, but not sufficient to get the vaccine, he said.
Like the CDC website, VaccinatePa.org, which describes itself as a grassroots effort, finds locations that have doses, but still requires consumers to go to specific websites to make an appointment.
Newells website takes the extra step of automatically checking retailers sites for appointments. If it finds available appointments, it reports back with a link to the page where consumers can make an appointment. We just drop users onto the appointment page, said Newell, who described himself as a dabbler in computer programming.

Learn The Lay Of The Land
Not content to sit and wait? There are plenty of other non-mass vaccination sites where you may be able to score a shot. This is where things get tricky, and where strategy really comes into play.
Search on the states Vaxfinder website or vaccine site map to find out which vaccination sites are near where you live or work, and factor in how far youre willing to drive. These resources are not always totally up to date, so double check pharmacy websites directly. Also, some appointment hunters have reported finding success using an app called Solv to track down clinics that state tools might have missed.
Depending on where you live, there may be multiple options, be it a pharmacy, a neighborhood health center, a regional collaborative, or some other site. Once you have a handle on this, youll know which websites to check regularly and will be able to familiarize yourself with how they work. Then, when the time comes, get ready to hit refresh over and over until a spot opens up.
