Of all the things available at Kroger, some believe among the most important was added Thursday as the nations largest grocery chain began giving COVID-19 vaccines.

The pharmacist came out, gave me the shot. I hardly felt it at all, Mary Engelkamp said.

Engelkamp made an appointment and was one of the first to get the shot. She was eligible because shes in the 80 and older age group.

Im 80 years old and I have a lung problem. So, it would be disastrous for me to get COVID, Engelkamp said.

Were used to doing many vaccines. So, we have the infrastructure already. We just need the vaccines and well be good to go, Kroger spokeswoman Erin Rolfes said.

Rolfes said Kroger got about 100 doses of the vaccine for each pharmacy involved in giving the vaccine.

The plan is for Kroger to be a major part of the vaccine distribution process as the vaccine becomes more readily available.

Its going to be a slow roll out just like it is everywhere else, but were ready to work with the governors of each state if they want to do large-scale vaccination sites, Rolfes said.

In order to get a vaccination at Kroger, you must first make an appointment. Appointments can only be made online or on the Kroger vaccine phone line. To learn more, click here.

You cannot make an appointment in-person at any of the Kroger pharmacies.

This Grocery Store Chain Is Helping To Give Out The Covid Vaccine Nationwide

Kroger is one of the 11 grocery store chains to partner with the government in order to administer a COVID-19 vaccine. Now that two have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are being distributed, the chain is preparing 2,200 pharmacies and 220 clinics across the country. And people in one state will start to get vaccinated as early as around Christmas Day.

Health care workers in Anchorage and Juneau, Alaska will get the Pfizer vaccine this week from Kroger Health, but it says it is working toward vaccination efforts for non-essential workers in other areas, according to a Dec. 22 statement.

“As one of the most-accessible health care partners in the U.S., Kroger Health is prepared and ready to play an active role in helping distribute the vaccine in collaboration with public health officials and community partners,” says the chief medical officer of Kroger Health, Dr. Marc Watkins. “We are strongly encouraging all customers and associates to receive the vaccine to curb the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, and we’ll do all we can to ensure they have access as soon as it’s available.”6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e

As part of the preparation, the grocery store chain is hiring around 1,000 additional health care personnel. Kroger’s timeline is quicker than one of its competitors. The CEO of Costco said in mid-December it won’t start administering a vaccine at its pharmacies until early spring.

Vaccines, in general, are incredibly safe and the COVID-19 vaccines are no different. You cannot get sick from the vaccine, says Alex McDonald, MD, a practicing family physician in San Bernardino, California. You may feel a few days of sore arm, redness at the injection site, mild fever, or fatigue. But this means your body is responding and creating the army to protect you if you do get exposed to COVID-19.

Some people have had anaphylactic reactions to the vaccine. Many of them had a history of such reactions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has had reports of non-severe allergic reactions like hives, swelling, and wheezing. The agency recommends that people who had a reaction to the first dose skip the second dose. Kroger Plans To Give 1 Million Covid Booster Shots Per Week: Report

Comirnaty is the first brand-name COVID-19 vaccine

Pfizer-BioNTech has named its COVID-19 vaccine “Comirnaty” after the FDA fully approved the drug August 23.

Kroger, the nation’s largest grocery chain, says it is making plans to administer 1 million COVID-19 booster shots each week once the jabs are available, and the company will even offer the jabs at nursing homes to residents unable to venture out according to a report.

President Colleen Lindholz revealed the ambitious goal to Reuters in an interview, saying the number of shots would be administered at double the rate the company delivered initial doses of the shot during the pandemic’s peak.

“When the vaccine first came out, we were not included in the long-term care facility deployment, but it’s great this time that we can be a part of that,” Lindholz said. “We’ve reached out to facilities that we already deliver prescriptions to, or where we’ve done flu shot clinics in the past.”

Kroger didn’t immediately respond to an inquiry from FOX Business about the plans.

While the booster shots have not yet been given the green light from the feds for broad distribution, certain immunocompromised Americans became eligible for a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines earlier this month. The boosters could possibly be given the all-clear by health officials and made available to the general public by mid-September.

Biggest Us Supermarket Chain Aims To Deepen Ties With Higher

Listen to article

Thousands of people recently streamed into an arena in Lexington, Ky., to receive Covid-19 vaccines, but it wasnt a hospital or health company managing the event. It was Kroger the biggest U.S. supermarket chain.

The Cincinnati-based company, which put up signage around the arena, has administered about 28,250 doses at the mass-vaccination site since February. Kroger hopes to boost its health business through its pandemic efforts. It aims to deliver millions of vaccinations to people nationwide and create more repeat customers for its pharmacies and supermarket offerings.

Kroger Just Announced A Major New Vaccination Policy Starting Jan 1

Covid

The COVID pandemic has ebbed and flowed over the last two yearsand with it, the precautions and policies put in place to slow the spread of the virus. In the past several months, vaccine mandates have been a major area of focus, with a number of cities barring unvaccinated people from entering indoor establishments or attending certain events. For their part, corporations have enacted separate rules for workers and customers, whether to encourage employees to get vaccinated or to prevent shoppers who haven’t gotten a COVID shot from entering stores without masks. Now, supermarket chain Kroger has announced a major new vaccination policy of its own.

On Dec. 14, The Wall Street Journal reported that Kroger told employees last week it would no longer offer paid emergency leave to unvaccinated employees who contract COVID, as of Jan. 1. Furthermore, all unvaccinated managers and nonunion employees will have an extra $50 added to their monthly health plan costs.

This move is not the first time the supermarket giant has pushed employees toward vaccination. In February, Kroger announced in a press release that employees could earn a one-time payment of $100 for getting vaccinated. That policy is still in place, per The Wall Street Journal, but starting next month, there may be a financial penalty for not getting the shot.

Kroger Grocer Nixes Covid

The United States supermarket chain employs almost half a million people.

One of the biggest private employers in the United States, supermarket chain Kroger Co, is eliminating some COVID-19 benefits for its unvaccinated workers starting next year, a move it hopes will push more employees to get the jab as worries grow over the spread of the Omicron strain of the coronavirus.

Kroger, which employs almost half a million full-time and part-time Americans, informed its staff last week that it would be eliminating the option to take two weeks of paid emergency leave for its unvaccinated employees who get COVID-19, The Wall Street Journal reported .

The Cincinnati-based grocer will also apply a $50 monthly health insurance surcharge to salaried non-union workers who are unvaccinated and enrolled in a company healthcare plan, according to a memo seen by the WSJ.

Krogers inoculation policy does not apply to employees with approved medical or religious accommodations.

Both the suspension of paid leave and the $50 surcharge are scheduled to go into effect January 1. The company has been encouraging staff to get the jab with a $100 bonus.

Krogers incentives and now, its suspension of benefits come as federal vaccination mandates for large employers continue to face legal hurdles, creating uncertainty.

That mandate is being challenged in court.

In the case of Kroger, supermarket employees have been regarded as front-line, essential workers since COVID-19 hit.
