With Gov. Andrew Cuomos announcement on Thursday for a new round of reopenings and a recent expansion to vaccine eligibility, more New York residents are trying to get vaccinated.
With the exception of pharmacies, all vaccine providers became eligible on Wednesday to vaccinate any eligible New Yorker, which now includes anyone over the age of 60 and additional public-facing essential workers.
Pharmacies including CVS and Rite Aid can only offer vaccinations to teachers and residents over the age of 60, according to federal guidelines.
With more than 2,600 pharmacies in the state, scheduling an appointment at a local pharmacy may be the most convenient path to vaccination for many New Yorkers.

How Effective Are The Fda
All three vaccines have proven to be equally effective at preventing hospitalization and death related to COVID-19. While Moderna and Pfizer require two doses and strict cold storage requirements, the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine only requires one dose and can be kept in regular refrigerators . All people ages 18 years and older who received a J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months ago should get a booster shot, for a total of two shots. A single dose of the J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine has lower vaccine effectiveness compared to two doses.

Rite Aid Expands Covid
PORTSMOUTH, Va. Rite Aid pharmacies across 17 states, including those in Virginia, will now offer COVID-19 vaccines.
The doses will start being administered Friday, April 30.
Rite Aid encourages people to schedule their vaccine appointments, but can also accommodate some walk-ins on a limited basis.
Walk-ins allow Rite Aid to better support customers that may not have access to internet for scheduling, while also increasing flexibility for customers, Rite Aid said in a news release.
Rite Aids are giving all three vaccines approved for use in the United States: Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and Johnson & Johnson.
People who are over the age of 18 can schedule appointments using the Rite Aid scheduling tool found at www.RiteAid.com/covid-19.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.
Rite Aid is now administering the COVID-19 vaccine at all locations in California and across the country for those ages 16 and older.
The pharmacy chain said Friday that it recommends people make reservations for vaccination appointments, but walk-ins will also be welcome on a limited basis.
