Safeway Albertsons To Soon Begin Administering Covid Vaccine
The Biden administration plans to ship a million more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine directly to pharmacies next week, and Safeway and Albertsons will be among the recipients. Many are asking where can they get a dose and how to set up a appointment. David Green, director of pharmacy for Safeway Albertsons, joined the Gee and Ursula Show to discuss how they will play a role.
Were fortunate enough to start receiving federal doses next week. And what that looks like is around 100 doses initially per store at least thats what were expecting from the information that we received so what were going to be able to do is in all of our pharmacies have those 100 doses. The community is going to be able to access the appointment schedule, which is online, he said.
Seattle CEO: Push to tax Washingtons billionaires a simple, obvious solution
Obviously 100 doses is not a lot per store, so its going to go quick, Green added. So what we recommend really for everyone is just to continue to be patient and persistent. Were going to start updating it over the weekend. And then as we continue to get more vaccines allocated, we will continue to update our appointments based on our allocations.
As host Ursula Reutin noted, theyve heard from so many people who say their elderly loved ones are not online and that really puts them at a disadvantage in terms of getting the vaccine. What is Safeway going to do for those folks?

With the delivery of the J & J vaccine this week, and overall increase in the number of vaccine doses coming to Washington, we have increased our capacity to get vaccine to all parts of the state, Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement Wednesday. We are making good progress on vaccination rates, and this third vaccine will help our efforts to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible.
Washington will likely receive an initial 60,900-dose allocation of the vaccine, the state Department of Health said last week. This does not include doses sent directly to pharmacies through the federal retail pharmacy program.
The state Department of Health offered the Cowlitz County 300 doses of the single-dose vaccine this week, said Stefanie Donahue, Cowlitz County Health and Human Services communications manager. The county directed 200 doses to Kaiser Permanente and 100 doses to Cowlitz Family Health Center, she said.
The county doesnt know how many doses of the new vaccine providers will get next week, Donahue said.
Statewide, 14.87% of residents had received their first dose and 8.4% received both doses as of Monday. More than 1.76 million doses have been administered in Washington and the seven-day average number of doses given per day was 43,765.
The county has recorded 4,267 cases and 57 COVID-19 deaths.
