Where To Get Cheap Pet Vaccinations

How Much Do Dog Vaccinations Cost

Furry friend or for yourself: Free vaccines for people and pets Saturday

Vaccines are recommended by veterinarians based on a pups breed, age, health, lifestyle and medical history, as well as whether your dog lives or travels to states known for specific diseases. The price of inoculations will, therefore, depend on which core and non-core shots are required.

Most shelter and rescue groups include vaccinations in their adoption fee so that a newly adopted dog or puppy is ready to get off to a healthy start in their new home. Below is an estimate of dog vaccination costs to give you an idea of what to expect when discussing your puppy shot schedule with your veterinarian.

  • Ways To Get Cheap Or Free Vet Care For Your Pet

    By Angela Colley/MoneyTalksNews

One day I noticed my puppy was acting strangely. She walked a few steps, stumbled, fell over and slowly got back up, only to fall over again. I realized her tummy was extremely bloated.

I rushed her to the vet. The vet examined her for a few minutes and started to chuckle. Then my puppy let out a bellowing burp, and the vet actually started to laugh.

When he asked me if I had left dog food out, I remembered the large bowl on the kitchen floor for my other dog. My puppy had 4 cups of food in her half-cup stomach.

It wasn’t serious — although food bloat can be a very serious condition — but I wasn’t laughing when I got the bill for $100.

Between routine care and those little surprises, your pet’s medical bills can get expensive.

Here are some ways to find less expensive — or even free — vet care.

Low Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic Dates

After a lot of careful consideration, CACC has decided to cancel our vaccine and microchip clinics this year. It was not an easy decision to make, but out of an abundance of caution, we decided that we did not want to put any one at risk for contracting COVID-19 amidst these unprecedented circumstances and health considerations we are all living with. Thank you for your understanding while we do our best to prioritize everyone’s health and safety during this pandemic.

Your dogs vaccine will be given as an injection under the skin on the back of their neck . Your dog will need to be held very still while the vaccine is given, if you dont feel comfortable doing so, tell your vet so that they can ask someone else in the practice to help. Vaccinations arent usually painful, but they can feel cold or sometimes sting a little.

Before vaccinating your dog, your vet will give them a full check-over and ask you some questions about their general health its important that your dog is healthy when they have their vaccination.

    A Smart Financial Move

Even if your pet rarely needs more than routine care, you can benefit handsomely from having pet insurance. Say, for instance, that one of those routine wellness checks uncovers the presence of a major health problem such as cancer or organ failure. Without pet insurance, you might have to shell out thousands of dollars for treatment. At that point it’s too late to purchase pet insurance, since most providers won’t cover pre-existing conditions. The time to get that insurance is before your pet receives an ominous diagnosis or sustains an injury that no one could ever have predicted.

    What Is Pet Insurance

In most respects, pet insurance works just like the health insurance policies that apply to humans. It’s intended to help you pay for your pet’s necessary medical care, from routine wellness checks to major surgical procedures and chronic condition management. Different policies offer different coverage limits, and the premiums you pay will reflect those limits. You’ll have to pay certain expenses out of pocket, such as exam or medication co-pays, until you meet your annual deductible. In addition to a maximum annual payout, your coverage may also specific a maximum per-incident payout – and you’ll be paying out of pocket for whatever services your policy doesn’t cover. But on the whole, your pet insurance should foot most of the bill for expensive veterinary care.

Determining The Timing And Frequency Of Vaccinations

Your veterinarian can best determine a vaccination schedule for your pet. This will depend on the type of vaccine, your pets age, medical history, environment and lifestyle.

For puppies: If his mother has a healthy immune system, a puppy will most likely receive antibodies in mothers milk while nursing. Puppies should receive a series of vaccinations starting at six to eight weeks of age. A veterinarian should administer a minimum of three vaccinations at three- to four-week intervals. The final dose should be administered at 16 weeks of age.

For adult dogs: Some adult dogs might receive certain vaccines annually, while other vaccines might be given every three years or longer.

For kittens: Kittens automatically receive antibodies in the milk their mother produces if their mother has a healthy immune system. When the kitten is around six to eight weeks of age, your veterinarian can begin to administer a series of vaccines at three- or four-week intervals until the kitten reaches 16 weeks of age.

For adult cats: Adult cats might be revaccinated annually or every three years.

    Local Public Health Department

Most public health departments, also known as county health departments or parish health units, provide adult vaccination services. Some provide them on a sliding-scale fee structure based on your ability to pay, others have a fixed price. Use the “local health centers and state health departments” list on this government page to locate your local public health department.

    Vaccine Manufacturers Patient Assistance Programs

Some pharmaceutical companies that make adult vaccines provide financial aid to uninsured adults who cant afford vaccines. Eligibility for financial aid varies by company but is almost always income-based. Additionally, for some pharmaceutical companies, a doctors office or clinic will be needed to help you submit the financial aid application.

While using a pharmaceutical companys financial aid program, use the brand name of the vaccine rather than the generic or common name to make your web searches easier.
