Which Country Has The Highest Vaccination Rate

Recommendations From To Enhance Global Vaccine Distribution

What’s Behind The COVID Surge In States With High Vaccination Rates?

The letter ended by recommending leaders take action to promote a more equitable rollout by:

  • Increasing ‘vaccine supplies for the worlds poorest’ by fully funding and implementing the organizations and programs created, like COVAX ‘to distribute vaccines, tests and treatments where they are needed most.’
  • Ensuring ‘access to vaccines for all people on the move’ which would ensure vaccines reach vulnerable populations like ‘refugees, migrants, internally displaced people, asylum-seekers, and others on the move.’
  • Supporting ‘low- and middle-income countries to combat COVID-19‘ by providing ‘comprehensive support financial, political, technical, logistical to vaccinate people quicklyand effectively to expand access to tests and treatments, to implement tailored public health measures.’

What Share Of The Population Has Been Partly Or Fully Vaccinated Against Covid

The following charts show the breakdown of vaccinations by those that have been partly or fully vaccinated. A person is considered partly vaccinated if they have received only one dose of a 2-dose vaccine protocol. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have received a single-dose vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine.

This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.

States Ranked By Percentage Of Population Fully Vaccinated: Dec 22

Vermont has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration data tracker.

The CDC’s data tracker compiles data from healthcare facilities and public health authorities. It updates daily to report the total number of people in each state who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The numbers reported by the CDC may vary from the numbers published on individual states’ public health websites, as there may be reporting lags between the states and the CDC.

As of 6 a.m. EDT Dec. 21, a total of 204,578,725 Americans had been fully vaccinated, or 61.6 percent of the country’s population, according to the CDC’s data.

Below are the states and Washington, D.C., ranked by the percentage of their population that has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC.

1. VermontNumber of people fully vaccinated: 478,502Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 76.68

2. Rhode IslandNumber of people fully vaccinated: 802,940Percentage of population fully vaccinated: 75.79

  • The United States began 2021 as a leader in COVID-19 vaccinations, but has fallen behind what can the country do to catch up with other high-income countries?

  • Other high-income countries have struggled with vaccine hesitancy and political resistance, but theyve raised vaccination rates by leveraging mandates and incentives

The United States began 2021 as a leader in COVID-19 vaccinations but has fallen behind dozens of other countries with fewer resources. There is a pressing need to increase vaccination: deaths and hospitalizations are rising again in the U.S. and Europe, almost entirely among unvaccinated people. In this post, we examine the reasons why the U.S. has lagged other high-income countries and how it could catch up.

Vaccination rates are never going to reach 100%, as there are always going to be members of the community who cannot safely receive vaccines, such as immunocompromised individuals. It is the protection of these vulnerable members that makes vaccination all the more important. The following countries have the highest DPT vaccination rates in the world, at 99%:

New York City Restarts Vaccine Clinics In Public Schools Where Many Children Remain Unvaccinated

In an effort to bolster coronavirus vaccinations among children ages 5 to 11, New York City officials began holding vaccine clinics this week at public elementary schools. The weeklong clinics will take place in every borough except Manhattan, which has the highest vaccination rate among students. They will be held at a new set of 20 schools each week, chosen based on their size and their vaccination rates, according to a spokesman for the citys Education Department.

Vaccination rates for New York Citys 1 million public school students significantly lag those for adults. Some health experts find the figures alarming, in part because the city recently lifted its school mask mandate, along with other pandemic restrictions. And coronavirus case rates have begun to creep up again, driven largely by BA.2, a highly transmissible Omicron subvariant.

Cases increased 31 percent in New York City in the past two weeks as of Thursday, according to a New York Times database. Case counts at schools are also on the rise, with 227 reported on Wednesday compared with 206 one week before, according to schools data. The rise in cases at schools in the seven-day period that ended on Tuesday marked the biggest weekly gain since the peak of the Omicron wave, according to an analysis from The City.

A total of 75 students were vaccinated at the clinics on Monday and Tuesday, the spokesman said. The clinics will return to the schools in several weeks to administer second doses.

A Cdc Airport Surveillance Program Found The Earliest Known Us Cases Of Omicron Subvariants

An airport-based coronavirus surveillance program in the United States for travelers arriving from abroad detected the first known U.S. case of the highly contagious Omicron subvariant BA.2 in December, according to a new study.

The results, which have not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, suggest that pooled testing of international travelers may be an effective and efficient way to keep tabs on new variants and pathogens.

Travelers are really an important population when tracking new and emerging infectious diseases because theyre mobile, they have the potential for exposure to disease during travel and they can spread disease from one place to another, said Dr. Cindy R. Friedman, chief of the Travelers Health Branch at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the studys lead investigator.

The program actually detected the first known U.S. cases of two Omicron subvariants, BA.2 and BA.3, which are similar to, but genetically distinct from, BA.1 and B.1.1, the versions of Omicron that drove a winter surge in U.S. cases.

The program was not the first to catch every version of Omicron BA.1, the subvariant that was initially most prevalent worldwide, did not show up in one of the airport samples until Dec. 1, the same day that officials announced that another team of researchers had found the first U.S. Omicron case.

Before Nov. 28, nearly all of the positive sample pools contained the Delta variant, the researchers found.

How Many Doses Have Been Donated By Each Country

These charts show the cumulative number of doses donated to the COVAX initiative by different countries, broken down by whether the donations have only been announced, actually donated, or delivered to the recipients. This is only available for a select number of countries for which the COVID-19 Task Force reports the necessary data.

The three following charts show the number of doses donated, adjusted for:

  • The population of the donating country
  • The GDP of the donating country
  • The number of doses administered by the donating country to its own population.
  • COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access

COVAX is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines directed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations , and the World Health Organization . COVAX coordinates international resources to enable low-to-middle-income countries equitable access to COVID-19 tests, therapies, and vaccines.

Vaccine Development: Vaccines Approved For Use And In Clinical Trials

The speed at which the first COVID-19 vaccines were developed was extraordinary. We have previously looked into the history of vaccine development. The measles vaccine was found relatively rapidly: it took only 10 years from the discovery of the pathogen to the development of the first vaccine. But for typhoid it took more than a century, and for some diseases for which weve known the pathogens for more than a century we still havent found an effective vaccine.

The development of a vaccine against COVID-19 has been much faster than the development of any other vaccine. Within less than a year several successful vaccines have already been announced and were approved for use in some countries.

The hope is that even more manufacturers develop vaccines for COVID-19. This will be important because eventually a very large share of the world population needs to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

We are on the way to several vaccines against COVID-19 vaccine trackers monitor the progress:

Several institutions maintain websites on which they list COVID-19 candidate vaccines that are currently being developed:

    Which Vaccines Are In Use

The vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech was the first approved by the WHO, followed by several others.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is now the most widely used around the globe.

Unlike Pfizer’s jab – which has to be kept at an extremely cold temperature – the Oxford vaccine can be stored in a normal fridge, which makes it easier to distribute.

Most governments have started with doses for the over-60s, health workers and people who are clinically vulnerable. After priority groups have been vaccinated, there is a wider rollout among younger age groups.

The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for 12 to 15-year-olds in the US, UK, Europe and other countries. The Sinovac vaccine is being used for children as young as three in China and Colombia.

Early studies suggest the newly identified Omicron variant of coronavirus is better able to evade vaccine protection than previous strains, though vaccination still offers strong protection against serious illness and hospitalisation.

A third ‘booster’ dose of a vaccine does appear to offer protection against infection from Omicron and at least 89 countries have begun booster vaccination programmes.

Worldwide, more than 100 possible vaccines are undergoing trials to test their efficacy and safety.

Read CNBC’s latest global coverage of the Covid pandemic:

“Inactivated vaccines are easy to manufacture and are known for their safety, but tend to produce a weaker immune response compared to some other vaccine types,” Michael Head, senior research fellow in global health at the University of Southampton in the U.K., wrote in an article published on The Conversation website.

Still, large phase three clinical trials showed that inactivated vaccines have “high efficacy against severe disease and death” from Covid, said Cowling.

The professor told CNBC that the spikes in Covid cases among some countries that use Chinese vaccines “tend to be surges in mild infections with very few severe cases in fully vaccinated individuals.”

Los Angeles Students Were Allowed To Attend School Without Masks

Students in the Los Angeles Unified School District were allowed to attend class without masks for the first time in more than a year on Wednesday, after staff and administrators in the second-largest U.S. school district reached a long-sought deal on the issue last week.

Masks are still strongly encouraged in classrooms, and students and staff will continue to be tested for the coronavirus weekly through the end of the school year, according to the agreement. But the lifting of one of the last large school district mask mandates in the country was another signal that leaders are trying to guide Americans back to some sense of normalcy.

Now that this important issue is behind us, it is time to focus on each students full academic potential, the districts new superintendent, Alberto M. Carvalho, said in a statement.

California schools were shuttered longer than in many other states which Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state leaders credited with saving lives, but which frustrated some parents and helped fuel an unsuccessful effort to oust the governor from office last year.

Throughout the pandemic, Los Angeless public schools have operated under particularly strict safety protocols negotiated by the districts large, powerful teachers union.

On a sweltering Wednesday across the Los Angeles district, which covers more than 700 square miles, students, parents and educators said that normal now includes masks just not all the time, and not on everyone.

The Best Option For Many Countries

Countries should not stop using Covid-19 vaccines from China, epidemiologists say, especially while the supply of vaccines is limited among low- and middle-income nations.

Many of the countries and territories that approved vaccines by Sinopharm and Sinovac are developing nations that can’t compete with wealthier countries for vaccines developed in the United States and Europe.

Ben Cowling, a professor at The University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health, said countries may decide to use certain vaccines depending on their long-term objectives.

“Some countries may accept a low level of circulation as long as there are relatively few severe cases and deaths from COVID-19,” Cowling, who heads the school’s epidemiology and biostatistics division, told CNBC in an email. “That should be achievable with high coverage of any of the available vaccines.”

Still, some countries are steering clear of China’s vaccines. Costa Rica last month rejected a delivery of vaccines developed by Sinovac after concluding it isn’t effective enough.

    Vaccination Rates By Country 2022

High vaccination rates required for four-phase plan to re-open country

Vaccination is the administration of a vaccine to help the immune system develop a means to protect the body from disease. Vaccines contain a weakened microorganism or virus or proteins or toxins from an organism that helps a person build a tolerance to the disease but is not strong enough to infect the person. Vaccines have helped billions of people avoid contracting diseases such as the flu, pneumonia, measles, chickenpox, and more.

It is not only important for an individual to get vaccinated, but for everyone in a community to get vaccinated. While vaccines are effective in preventing diseases, herd immunity is most effective in preventing even highly infectious like measles from spreading within a community. During an outbreak, people who have been vaccinated are still at risk of becoming sick herd immunity prevents this. The World Health Organization estimates that vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, and measles prevent 2 to 3 million deaths around the world every year.

The world is much further ahead in the fight against infectious diseases than many people think. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 85.8% of the worlds one-year-olds are vaccinated. Additionally, about 80% of infants living in the worlds 73 poorest countries still receive routine immunizations. This is measured by how many children have been given a full course of immunizations for diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus .

Belgium In Global Top 10 Of Countries With Highest Vaccination Rate

Over seven million people received their first vaccine dose in Belgium so far, placing the country in the top 10 of countries with the highest vaccination rate in the world, health officials stated during a press conference on Wednesday.

As 75% of adults in Belgium are partially vaccinated, and over 4 in 10 are fully vaccinated, the countrys campaign has now entered the home stretch, according to Gudrun Briat of the Vaccination Taskforce.

At the global level, Belgium is in the top 10 of countries with the highest vaccination coverage, she said. Who would have expected this a few weeks ago?

In mid-June, Belgium briefly topped the ranking of EU countries with the highest vaccination rate, but now dropped to third place in Europe, and now ranks second in terms of vaccines administered daily.

Global Success Stories In Measles Immunization

Many developed countries with robust healthcare systems have achieved a near 100% rate of immunization against measles in children. China and other countries that have assumed the responsibility of providing free healthcare to children have closed in on such nearly absolute success rates. Most European countries fall in this category as well, owing to efficient healthcare systems and a high availability of funds to provide those better healthcare services. The following countries have achieved the highest rates of measles immunization, at 99%:

    • Andorra
    • St. Vincent and the Grenadines

In the following countries, the MMR vaccine is mandatory by law:

    • Bulgaria
    • Slovenia
